Ten questions worth asking your wedding photographer in Cornwall

Your wedding is one day, and the photographs are what's left of it. Picking the person who takes them matters, and it's mostly about whether you get on with them and like their work. Here are ten questions worth asking anyone you're considering, me included.

What is your photography style? Some of us work documentary, quietly following the day as it happens. Others pose and direct, or shoot a fine art look. None of it is wrong, but you should know which one you're getting.

How many weddings have you photographed in Cornwall? Local experience counts here. Cornish light, Cornish weather and Cornish venues all have their quirks, and knowing them means fewer surprises on the day.

Can I see a full wedding gallery? Highlights always look good. Ask to see one whole wedding, start to finish, so you can see the consistency rather than the ten best frames of the year.

Do you carry backup equipment? Cameras fail. Cards fail. Anyone working professionally should have spares of everything in the bag.

How many hours of coverage do you offer? Talk through your timings before you decide. Getting ready through to first dance is a long day, and some packages are built around a shorter one.

Is there a second shooter? A second pair of eyes catches the other side of the room. Ask whether one is included or can be added.

How long until I see the photographs? Most photographers send a preview within a week or two and the full gallery later. Just ask so you know what you're waiting for.

What do I actually receive? Digital files, prints, an album, high resolution or not — get it in writing so there are no surprises afterwards.

Do you have liability insurance? Most venues ask for it anyway. Any working photographer will have it to hand.

Can I give you a list of must-have shots? A good photographer will catch the day without a list, but if there's a particular person or a family group that matters, say so early and it gets done.
